Direct Entry to Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Program (DNAP)

    Mount Marty nursing graduates can be admitted into the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice program, located at our Sioux Falls campus, provided they meet the following benchmarks:

    • Benchmark 1:
      • Earned a 3.6 overall GPA from Mount Marty University.
      • Earned a 3.6 GPA in sciences coursework.
        ▫ This includes nursing and other science courses.
        ▫ Complete one course in either statistics or epidemiology.
      • Participate in community service and leadership activities in the undergraduate nursing program.
    • Benchmark 2:
      • Pass the NCLEX and acquire an unencumbered RN license.
      • Complete two years as a nurse in an intensive care unit (ICU) by the time the DNAP program begins.
      • Become a leader in the ICU as either a charge nurse, mash nurse, educator or faculty senate; preceptor role, shift charge nurse, code blue team leader, rapid response nurse.
    • Benchmark 3:
      • Obtain the following certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, NRP, and CCRN.
      • Demonstrate competencies in advanced monitoring techniques such as basic heart rhythm interpretation, arterial pressure monitoring and interpretation, mechanical ventilation and weaning, titration of IV vasoactive drugs, CVP monitoring, 12 lead EKG interpretation, invasive cardiac output, PA pressure monitoring, recovery of immediate postoperative hearts, CRRT, cardioversion and defibrillation, intra-aortic balloon pump, LVADs, and ICP monitoring.
    In 2024, The university received 331 applications for 40 spots in the summer 2025 nurse anesthesia practice cohort.



    The demand for nurse anesthetists is rising rapidly. If you’re a nurse with a bachelor’s degree, our Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice program will prepare you for safe, advanced practice in anesthetic management throughout a patient’s perioperative period.
